2009 Louisiana-Mississippi Credit Union Leadership Cruise Mark your calendars for March 7 - 12, 2009 and make plans to join us on the Louisiana/Mississippi Credit Union Leadership Cruise! This 5-day cruise will take place on the Carnival cruise ship Fantasy. Come aboard and experience outstanding educational opportunities for both management and volunteers, as well as spectacular cuisine, nonstop entertainment, and fun activities when we stop in Cozumel and Progresso,Mexico! There will be something for everyone during our fun & educational days at sea! Educational session will be presented on topics of interest to credit union CEOs, management staff, and volunteers. As your credit union begins to make its plans to attend this conference, there is one very important point that we cannot stress enough: once the block of rooms that we are holding for this meeting are spoken for, those that did not commit early and still want a room will be at the mercy of the cruise line. This means that if there are rooms still available and we are able to book one for you, you are likely to pay a higher price than our group rate. So make your reservations early! It's based on in-depth interviews with members in their homes and on other cutting edge research efforts. The conclusion is clear: consumers look at financial products and services very differently than most credit union CEOs and board members do. New research shows ways your credit union can better meet the true needs and wants of members. It goes far beyond what's learned in most surveys. It is loaded with fresh insights into gaining larger share of members' wallets and increasing member loyalty. Smart Growth Strategies: "How can our credit union grow in an increasingly competitive environment?" has become the number one question across the nation. It is becoming more difficult to grow membership because consumers are less willing to switch financial institutions. Simultaneously, it's more difficult to grow assets because members have so many choices and competition is fierce. This session examines credit union success strategies and innovations for attracting and serving growing market segments like young adults, immigrants, small businesses, and aging baby boomers. It focuses on developing new strategies and revising old ones to (1) expand your loan portfolio, (2) build your deposit base, and (3) generate fee income. Energy of Attitude: Our attitude is a mindset of how we mentally filter what is happening in our lives. It is contagious, it affects you physically, and it is a CHOICE! Learn how your attitude measures up, what you can do about it and how taking action can improve your life. Creating Balance: It's not the stress that gets to us; it's how we handle it! Explore how you can face risk with ease, expand your comfort zone and handle stress effectively by activating your sleeping creativity. Steady Planning Avoids the Hurricanes of Life: We all need to plan for the ups and downs of economic cycles. Steady planning and use of credit union products can help us all ride out the cycles of the storms. How much should we save for retirement? How should those funds be invested? What types of planning can we do for our families’ education? What about the use of life insurance? These and many other issues will be addressed in this program. Bank Secrecy Act Update: The Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) continues to be the hot exam issue for credit unions in 2008 and going into 2009. What are the responsibilities of the credit union? How can Share Insurance and Your Member: Reports in the media are often incorrect or misleading about share insurance and the protection it gives your members. Now more than ever, we need to know how share insurance works. What are the categories of insurance? How does the fund work if a credit union were to ever fail? Gain the knowledge you need to build member confidence in the system. This requirement may become effective as early as June 2009. Carnival strongly recommends that all guests travel with a valid passport during their cruise. In the event of an emergency, this will enable guests that must debark the ship before their cruise ends to fly back to the U.S. without significant delays and complications. Additionally, it will greatly help to expedite their debarkation process. For more information, visit http://travel.state.gov.
